A Statement from our Trustees

It has recently come to our attention that there are some unscrupulous rescue sites that are coming into centers like ourselves and adopting dogs for the sole purpose of putting them up for adoption and making a profit.

We recently became aware of Alfie and Evie, a Cocker Spaniel and a Cavalier Spaniel who have been adopted from us together, at a discounted price because of the joint adoption and who are now both appearing on another rescues site, available for adoption at £200 each.

We do not condone this behavior – we believe that this behavior is solely for the purpose of making money and the good of the organisation and not in the best interest of the dog.

We are aware that some people do see us as a “pound” and are under the misconception that we put dogs to sleep after 7 days – this is not the case.

We will never put a healthy dog to sleep and those dogs that are considered for euthanasia are only ever considered following an assessment process.

We believe in giving every dog a chance.

We also believe that all stray or lost dogs should be given every opportunity to be re-united with their families before being considered for adoption, this is why we follow the law and stray dogs from Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Tameside and High Peak must come to us and remain with us for 7 clear days before they can be put into a foster home or considered for adoption.

We know there are people who don’t agree with that but it is our belief that these people and organisations are not doing the best for the dog in helping to re-unite these dogs with their owners.

So please, help us to help more dogs – bring stray dogs to us and let us help find their families.

If you know of organisations taking dogs from rescues for the sole purpose of rehoming again – let your friends and family know and don’t support them.
